Mitch and his wife Cindy have been serving at Miner Baptist Church since June of 1997. During that time, Mitch has also served as President, Vice President, and 2nd Vice President of the Missouri Baptist Convention and Cindy has served two terms on the Executive Board of the Missouri Baptist Convention. In addition to being the Senior Pastor’s wife, Cindy also serves as a part time secretary in the church office. They have 3 children. Sarah is married to Kevin Overcash and lives in Collierville, Tennessee. Sarah and Kevin have blessed Mitch and Cindy with three grandchildren, Jackson, Gracie and Cannon. Luke is married to Kayla and serves as Sr. High Pastor at Central Church in Collierville, TN. Their youngest Joshua is married to Cailey and also lives in Collierville, TN.
Since 1997 Miner Baptist has grown to become one of the larger Churches in the State of Missouri. Miner now has four full time Associate Pastors, one Bivocational Minister, two full time Ministry Assistants, a part time secretary and custodians. Miner has become a soul winning Church and has been the leading Church in the Charleston Association in baptizing new believers. Miner has also become actively involved in outreach ministry and become a missions minded church that sponsors a number of mission trips each year.
Mitch answered God’s call while a member of Lynnwood Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau, Mo. At age 18, he was licensed to the Gospel Ministry and ordained at the age of 20, both by the First Baptist Church of Delta. Mitch attended Southeast Missouri State University and graduated with a Bachelors of Music Education with a Vocal Emphasis in 1977. He then attended The Southern Baptist Seminary and received his Master’s in Religious Education.
Mitch served as Minister of Music and Youth at the 1st Baptist Church of Delta, Missouri while attending college. It was at Delta that he met Cindy and they were married on December 17, 1976. He served as Minister of Music and Youth at Salem Baptist Church in Brandenburg, Kentucky while attending Seminary. After Seminary Mitch moved his family to serve as Minister of Music and Youth at 1st Baptist Church in Union, Missouri. After 7 years at Union he was called to serve as Minister of Music and Youth at Anna Heights Baptist Church in Anna, Ill. Mitch spent 5 years at Anna and it was here that the Lord called him into another direction as a Pastor preaching the Good News. His first Church as Pastor was in Ava, Ill. He spent from 1992 to June of 1997 at Ava shepherding a growing flock and winning souls. Miner Baptist Church and Sikeston Missouri have been home since then.
Jim and his wife Karen have been members of Miner Baptist Church since September of 1998. Jim joined Miner after serving as a Bi- vocational Pastor since 1980 in Southern Illinois and Charleston, Mo. Jim spent those years working also selling Life Insurance and Mutual Funds.
In the fall of 2000, Jim was asked to come on staff part time to help in hospital visits and in the Spring of 2002 came on staff full time as Associate Pastor with responsibilities as Church Administrator, Missions Pastor, and Education Director.
Jim is very active in Missions. He leads or directs several Mission trips annually as well as has served as one of the trustees for the International Missions Board of the SBC. Jim is a graduate of Southern Illinois University and is currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Theology from Andersonville Theological Seminary.
Jim and Karen have two beautiful daughters. Jessica is an ICU Nurse in Panama City, Florida. Kari is a private banker in the music industry for Fifth Third bank in Nashville, Tn.
Josh joined the staff in November of 2012, and is part of four generations of Miner Baptist Church. He and his wife Brittney were married on December 30, 2005 and have two little rascals that consume their house with toys, Lawson and Duncan. Josh became a Christian at an early age and answered God's call to the ministry in 2009. A graduate of Liberty University with a B.S. in education, students and their parents are a major priority in his life. The ministry at Miner Baptist is moving towards a combined-influence model with parents joining forces with leaders to help guide the next generation into life with Christ, not just something to do on Sundays and Wednesdays.
If you show up at Miner Baptist Church as a student, expect to be challenged by Josh to live a life that isn't typical. He believes that raising the bar for each student is part of his 'job' and students that leave the youth department should be ready to BE the church, not just regular attendees. Owning their faith and living it out is part of the measuring stick of 'success' in the student ministry.
"The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps." - Proverbs 16:9 (ESV)
James Guy was called to serve at Miner Baptist Church in August of 2013. James and his wife Cindy have been married 7 years, and they have 4 beautiful kiddos: Ruth (5), Hannah (3-1/2), Samuel (1-1/2), and Elizabeth (born Feb 2013). James and Cindy love children and believe they are a blessing from God. Cindy is a full-time mom.
James grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma and graduated from Jenks High School. James graduated from Oklahoma State University and recieved a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration majoring in Business Management. James recieved Jesus Christ as His Lord and Savior his sophomore year in college and called into ministry during his Senior year. James and Cindy met in college and were married after they graduated. They moved to Lousiville, Kentucky where James attended The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and earned a Master's of Divinity in Christian Education.
During Seminary, James served part-time as a Youth Pastor at Hill Grove Baptist Church in Guston, Kentucky. After that, James became a member of Highview Baptist Chruch, Fegenbush Campus, in Lousiville, and served as an intern for 2 years. After graduating seminary, James was called to serve as Student Minister at First Baptist Chruch Fordyce in South Arkansas.
Now the Guy Family is excited to be called to Miner Baptist Church to serve children and families. James and Cindy believe that God calls Dads and Moms to be the primary discipler of their children in Deuteronomy 6. They believe that God desires every Home to be like a little church, with Dad as the Pastor of the Home. James believes that The Church and The Home must be partners working together for the common goal of making every child a Fully-Functional Disciple of Jesus Christ.

I was saved at the age of 14 in the Three Rivers Baptist Church near Farmington, Missouri and 1 Ѕ years later surrendered to God’s call on my life. I have pastured Baptist churches and served as a Director of Missions for forty-nine years and now instead of retiring and “laying them up,” God has called me into another field of exciting service.
I have been married to Janis for 46 years. Not only is she a faithful help in the ministry but she is also a gifted soloist and conference leader. We have four children who are also in active Christian service. I am interested in the local church and its welfare. I am also very interested in pastors who serve faithfully in a time when it is increasingly difficult to minister as a pastor. My prayer and desire is to see churches strengthen and pastors encouraged. Most importantly, we all want to see many souls saved.
Janis, my wife is a vital part of the ministry. Not only is she an encourager and prayer warrior, she is also a gifted soloist. She also speaks at ladies conferences, prayer retreats, banquets, and other events.
If you’re looking for a good evangelist for your revival I recommend to you Brother Ron Shrum. Brother Ron preached our last revival and our people loved him. It was the best attended revival we’ve had in the last seven years.

Comments From Some Leaders
I have known Ron Shrum for 30 years and had the opportunity to serve on is staff for three of those years. Ron is a dynamic preacher and a tremendous soul winner. Ron has been very successful in the area of growing a Sunday School and Church. He has a heart for the Lord and is faithful to the Word of God in every way. Ron is a man that God has used and will continue to use to help churches make a difference in the Kingdom of God. I whole heartedly recommend Ron to you.
•Mitchell Jackson, Pastor Miner Baptist Church and Former President of the Missouri Baptist Convention
Ron Shrum is a prince of preachers who has impacted many lives and numerous churches. Although the bulk of Ron’s ministry has been as a pastor, he has held hundreds of revivals throughout his many years of service to God. Ron’s burden for soul is matched by his concern for healthy churches. Ron Shrum will not leave a church in a mess after one of his meetings. God will use him to bless the pastor and his congregation with a deeper faith and genuine concern for the lost.
